Award-winning photograph revealed to be AI-generated image, photographer turns down prize

A German artist who received a serious prize for images has turned down the award after revealing his work was created with help from artificial intelligence (AI).

Photographer Boris Eldagsen received the artistic class of the open competitors for the Sony World Photography Awards 2023 together with his “{photograph},” titled “Pseudomnesia: The Electrician.” The picture, which depicted an older lady holding a youthful in black and white, was “the primary AI generated picture to win in a prestigious worldwide Images competitors,” Eldagsen stated in a press release posted on his web site.
