Secretary of Protection Lloyd Austin confirmed Friday that U.S. troops have been positioned close to Sudan as a security measure.

“We at all times wish to make it possible for we’re doing prudent planning, which is what we’re doing,” Austin added. “We have deployed some forces into the theater to make sure that we offer as many choices as potential if we’re known as on to do one thing. We have not been known as on to do something but.”

U.S. forces have been positioned in Djibouti for a possible mission to evacuate U.S. Embassy personnel in Khartoum, Sudan’s capital metropolis, a senior U.S. official confirmed to Fox Information Thursday. 

A U.S. citizen was killed in Sudan amid escalating violence within the nation’s capital and different locations over the previous week.

“We will verify the demise of 1 U.S. citizen in Sudan,” a State Division spokesperson advised Fox Information. “We’re in contact with the household and supply our deepest condolences to them on their loss. Out of respect for the household throughout this tough time, we now have nothing additional so as to add.” 

The deceased American citizen didn’t work for the U.S. Embassy.
