Spanish police stated Wednesday that they’d detained one Russian nationwide and one Ukrainian nationwide for his or her alleged smuggling of protection materials to Russia in defiance of European Union sanctions.

The smugglers had developed a “subtle” system of evading worldwide customs controls, police said, that made the shipments seem like destined for nations not beneath embargo, just for them to finish up in Russia.

The arrests have been accompanied by raids on the suspects’ properties. The case is now within the arms of a Nationwide Courtroom decide.
