Global Anglicans rebuke liberal Church of England head amid same-sex marriage fight: ‘Determined to bless sin’

A gaggle of conservative Anglican leaders from all over the world have issued a press release rebuking the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby and different Church of England leaders they declare “have failed to protect the religion.”

GAFCON is “a world household of genuine Anglicans standing collectively to retain and restore the Bible to the center of the Anglican Communion,” according to its website, which explains the motion emerged in 2008 in response to growing theological liberalism within the Anglican Communion.

The Kigali Dedication comes amid deep fractures amongst Anglicans globally relating to gender and sexuality. Following two days of in depth debate, the Church of England’s Normal Synod voted in February in favor of providing prayers for God’s blessing on same-sex {couples}.

Accusing Church of England leaders of “repeated departures from the authority of God’s Phrase,” the assertion stated, “The most recent of those departures is almost all vote by the Normal Synod of the Church of England in February 2023 to welcome proposals by the bishops to allow same-sex {couples} to obtain God’s blessing.”

“It grieves the Holy Spirit and us that the management of the Church of England is decided to bless sin. Because the Lord doesn’t bless same-sex unions, it’s pastorally misleading and blasphemous to craft prayers that invoke blessing within the identify of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit,” the assertion additional famous.

The Kigali Dedication comes two months after Anglican leaders within the International South Fellowship of Anglican Church buildings (GSFA) rejected the management of the archbishop of Canterbury in a scathing letter after the Church of England voted to supply blessings for same-sex {couples}.

A spokesperson for Lambeth Palace, the official residence of the archbishop of Canterbury, issued a statement in response to the Kigali Dedication, noting “that no modifications to the formal constructions of the Anglican Communion will be made until they’re agreed upon by the Devices of Communion.”

Bishop of South Syndey Dr. Michael Stead, who chaired the GAFCON assertion committee, stated the convention made clear that “many of the world’s Anglicans have misplaced confidence within the Archbishop of Canterbury to supply a godly means ahead that will likely be acceptable to those that are dedicated to the truthfulness, readability, sufficiency and authority of scripture,” according to Church Times.
