Tour de France teams throw jabs at each other over alleged beer drinking during off day

The supervisor for the Dutch biking group Jumbo-Visma says he noticed members of a French squad ingesting “massive beers” on the second relaxation day of the Tour de France.

Jumbo Visma supervisor Richard Plugge, whose rider Jonas Vingegaard leads the occasion, criticized Groupama-FDJ cyclists for not taking the occasion severely.

“We had been with a French group at our lodge throughout the remainder day. We might see riders drink massive beers,” Plugge stated, through ESPN. “Alcohol is poison, and once you’re drained [and you drink], it makes you extra drained.”

Plugge added that Vingegaard’s success had been due to his consideration to “particulars.”

Groupama-FDJ supervisor Marc Madiot didn’t react pleasantly.

“Who does he suppose he’s? Frankly, it is an exceptionally vile assault on his half,” Madiot stated. “Let him hold his mouth shut. I do not intend to see him. I do not care about him. I am not going to go and see him. I am indignant. It is pathetic. I do not watch what he places in his riders’ bowls.

“How can any person dare to say one thing like that,” Madiot added, saying the claims weren’t true. “They weren’t at our dinner desk. Different members of the group have drunk a beer. However the riders had been on Perrier water.” 

Madiot continued to tear Plugge for his sentiments that Madiot’s group was not taking the occasion severely.

“What is that this remark getting at? That our riders aren’t severe, that they don’t practice? I’d wish to level out that the next day’s TT, I informed our riders to go all out. Our eight riders had been all within the high 80. And the day after I had 4 riders within the break, so he can shut his mouth,” Madiot stated. “Folks must cease saying no matter they need. It’s shabby, shabby.

“I don’t give a rattling about what he says,” Madiot continued. “I’m not going to decrease myself to the purpose the place I am going see him.”

Vingegaard is searching for his second straight Tour de France victory.
