Alabama bans transgender female athletes from women’s college sports

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey signed laws Tuesday that prohibits transgender girls from collaborating on feminine sports activities groups in faculty.

The state had beforehand banned transgender athletes from collaborating in feminine youth sports activities from grades Ok-12.

“Look, if you’re a organic male, you aren’t going to be competing in girls’s and ladies’ sports activities in Alabama. It’s about equity, plain and easy,” Ivey stated in an announcement.

The motion for the school rules began in April when laws superior in the course of the month.

The Ok-12 ban was put in place in 2021.

“Forcing girls to compete in opposition to organic males would reverse many years of progress that girls have made for equal alternative in athletics,” Republican Rep. The invoice says organic ladies wouldn’t be allowed to take part in boys and males’s sports activities.

The ban has drawn criticism from members and supporters of the LGBTQ+ group.

Carmarion D. Anderson-Harvey, Alabama state director of the Human Rights Marketing campaign, an advocacy group for LGBTQ+ folks, stated the laws is a part of a “systematic assault in opposition to LGBTQ+ folks” in Alabama and elsewhere.

“In simply two years, she and extremist lawmakers in Alabama have handed 4 anti-LGBTQ+ payments. From dictating what loos we are able to use to blatantly ignoring the precise issues in girls’s sports activities, these politicians are making Alabama an more and more hostile place for transgender folks and the LGBTQ+ group as an entire,” Anderson-Harvey stated.

Twenty different states have restrictions on transgender women and girls collaborating in feminine sports activities.
