Lewis Capaldi has been memorialised in papier-mache, ping pong balls and bronze spray paint by pupils at his former college.

College students at St Kentigern’s Academy in Blackburn, West Lothian, introduced the singer with the sculpture, which principal artwork instructor Bryan Johnstone stated was “deliberately unhealthy, weird and odd-looking”.

Capaldi described the statue as “essentially the most stunning and weird present ever”, Mr Johnstone advised Sky Information.

“Lewis, as we all know, is nice at laughing at himself and self-deprecating, therefore why the plan was to do one thing like this,” he stated.

The artwork division took inspiration from the fake David Beckham statue, which James Corden pranked the footballer with – and Mr Johnstone stated Capaldi shortly picked up on the reference.

The sculpture was based mostly on a model “upon which we constructed with wire mesh, papier-mache, air clay, actual clothes and a few ping-pong balls for eyes”, he stated.

It was then spray painted bronze and positioned on a plinth – a nod to Capaldi’s new album cowl.

Capaldi, 26, visited his former college in West Lothian on Monday for the disclosing.

Mr Johnstone stated seven college students from S4 (Yr 11) have been concerned with the undertaking alongside 4 artwork lecturers.

The planning course of took just a few months after the varsity was approached by Capaldi’s workforce and the construct took just a few weeks, he stated.

“The scholars have been superb all through and managed to maintain the entire thing high secret,” he stated.
