Dodgers’ Mookie Betts says he ‘wanted to stay in Boston my whole career’

It’s been over three years for the reason that Boston Purple Sox traded All-Star Mookie Betts to the Los Angeles Dodgers. 

Because the commerce, Boston has missed the postseason two of the previous three years whereas the Dodgers received the 2020 World Series and have arguably been one of the best group within the Nationwide League.

The commerce was stunning then, and Betts’ current feedback received’t make the choice to maneuver the seven-time All-Star any simpler for Red Sox followers to abdomen.

“If I stayed in Boston, I don’t know if I’d have began and been who I’m at the moment. Boston is only a totally different tradition, a distinct life there than it’s in LA. And totally different alternatives,” Betts mentioned on a current episode of the “Foul Territory” podcast. 

“Being in LA, the transfer to LA has most likely been … regardless that I wasn’t actually prepared for it. I do know individuals don’t imagine it, however I needed to remain in Boston my complete profession. That’s the place I grew up. That’s my life. I do know all people there. It was a brief flight to Nashville. It was excellent.”

Betts was requested if he would have signed a deal just like the one he signed with the Dodgers — $365 million — with Boston, and the 2018 AL MVP mentioned he “100%” would have signed with the Purple Sox.

“One-hundred p.c. However that didn’t occur,” Betts mentioned. “It was really form of a blessing in disguise. My household loves it [Los Angeles]. It’s a distinct lifestyle.”

Betts signed a 12-year, $365 million contract extension with the Dodgers in July 2020.

Betts was traded together with pitcher David Worth for 3 prospects, together with outfielder Alex Verdugo, who has hit .285 in 4 seasons with the Purple Sox. 

The Purple Sox are 2½ video games again of the Toronto Blue Jays for the ultimate wild-card spot within the American League, whereas the Dodgers are 4 video games up on the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Francisco Giants within the NL West. 

Betts is hitting .277 with 27 house runs by way of 99 video games of the 2023 season.
