Former MLB pitcher David Hess says he has been diagnosed with cancer a second time

David Hess stepped away from Major League Baseball in 2021 after docs identified him with most cancers. 

On Friday, the pitcher revealed his battle with the illness isn’t over. 

“The final couple weeks have been a whirlwind for us with this most cancers journey that appears to by no means wish to finish,” he posted to social media Friday.

Hess famous that he was identified with a type of cancer known as angiosarcoma.

“We came upon that inside my tumor was [a] very uncommon and really aggressive kind of most cancers referred to as angiosarcoma. Together with that discovery, lung nodules have popped up that we aren’t certain what to make of but.”

The 29-year-old stated he’ll bear surgical procedure subsequent week to biopsy the nodules. Medical doctors will carry out a separate process to take away the tumor.

Hess can even bear chemotherapy.

“I’ll combat like hell and do no matter is required for a cancer-free prognosis sooner or later,” he wrote in a social media submit.

Chicago White Sox pitcher Liam Hendriks and spouse Kristi are among the many donors who’ve contributed to a web based fundraiser in help of Hess and his spouse Devin.

Hendriks was identified with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in 2022. He rang the “victory bell” at his final chemotherapy session April 5.

Hess was identified with a uncommon type of most cancers often called a germ cell tumor, which docs found shortly after the 2021 baseball season. He underwent remedy and was cleared to return to regular exercise in early 2022.

Final February, he reported to spring coaching with the Tampa Bay Rays earlier than pitching within the minor leagues on the Triple-A stage. He completed the minor league season with a 2-1 document and a 13.06 ERA in eight aid appearances.

Hess has a profession document of 6-22 with a 6.25 ERA. Apart from his time within the Rays group, Hess spent three seasons with the Baltimore Orioles and had a stint with the Miami Marlins.
